Hearing Aids Provision for People with Hearing Disability in the Gaza Strip

Since its establishment in 1992, Atfaluna Society for Deaf Children (ASDC) has been serving deaf and hard of hearing people of all ages at all levels.  Services include academic education, vocational training and job creation, and rehabilitation to meet the ultimate goal of including deaf and hard of hearing persons in the community.

Hearing aid fitting is considered to be the first and most important part in the rehabilitation process for the deaf. In this regard, ASDC has provided (82) hearing aids and (80) packages of hearing aid batteries to (46) deaf and hard of hearing persons of whom (40) are children, through a generous fund of the Australian Representative Office  in Palestine.

Dr. Ramadan Hussein, Head of the Outpatient Clinics at ASDC, clarified that ASDC is facing challenges in securing new hearing aids and spare parts for its beneficiaries. Still hundreds of deaf persons are enlisted on our waiting list for hearing aids and continue to wait for months as a result of security restrictions on entry of supplies, high costs and lack of resources and funds.
