The Gaza Strip continues to face dire situations due to the political and socio-economic turmoil surrounding the country since years now. A large number of the populations struggle to make ends meet. Deaf people in particular are experiencing the effects of poor access to food, basic healthcare, education and any form of training and employment.
The Lady Fatemah Charitable Trust concern about the deaf children and adults has always been accompanied by genuine actions on the ground. Through a generous support from the LTFC, Atfaluna Society for Deaf Children (ASDC) is being able to support deaf women and men and other disadvantaged women with apprenticeship opportunities at ASDC Crafts Workshops. The apprentices receive training in areas of Carpentry, Painting on Wood, Pottery Production, Culinary Arts, Embroidery and Sewing. The project aims to maximize the beneficiaries’ chances for sustainable employment by improving their employability skills.
“I have gained valuable work experience. The feeling of being financially independent and self-reliant is indescribable! Thank you Lady Fatemah Trust for investing in my future!” expressed Khadija, a deaf apprentice supported through LFTC project.
The LFT support expanded to reach out to orphan deaf students and other needy deaf students enrolled at Atfaluna special education classes in this academic year. Students were provided with school needs including transportation fees, school uniforms, hearing aids batteries, and stationery supplies.
The Director of Atfaluna praised the LFTC‘s contribution to Atfaluna and its caring attitude towards people in need in Gaza. He stated: “Over the years, the kind and generous support of the LFTC has brought hope to a huge number of deaf children, adults, their families, and other disadvantaged persons in the Gaza Strip and helped them face the difficult challenges in their daily lives.”
